Analysis and Evaluation of an essay




Option 1: Analyze the writer’s argument in any of the following articles (choose one):

Option 2: Analyze a writer’s argument in an article of your choosing. Note that you MUST first show me the article and get my approval. Also note that Writing Projects 3 and 4 are on a research question (or questions) on a topic of your choosing. You may want to choose that topic now and find a relevant article for this project.

       Recognize strategies of written arguments
       Analyze audience and purpose
       Evaluate use of evidence
       Evaluate response to opposing views
       Evaluate anticipation of possible reader objections

Argument Analysis/Evaluation: An argument analysis examines the components and elements of an argument (as discussed in the related reading assignments in the text) and reaches a conclusion about the extent to which the argument is effective or ineffective.
