Welcome to Module 3. We will explore two styles of art, Neo-Classical and Romanticism, that are each in their own way a reaction to the cultural influences of the time. To be clear, "Romanticism" is not about romance in the way that we think of romance today. By now most of you are becoming familiar with the nature of TUI undergraduate coursework and using the Internet to research your papers. Many of you are drawing initial background information from Wikipedia, MS Encarta, and similar websites, which can be great places to start. In the background information materials there are specific, required resources as well as some recommended and more advanced resources. These include websites of famous museum collections that not only offer a multitude of image galleries but many helpful essays and links to enrich your knowledge about the artworks. Some have wonderful collections of Greek and Roman antiquities, for example, while others specialize in ancient and/or modern Asian, African, Middle Eastern, American, and/or European art.
