Collecting Quantitative Data (Reliability and Validity)


Locate an established assessment that is commonly used in the field of psychology (e.g., MMPI) and/or education then provide the following information:
Title of Instrument
Include full title and name of developers.
Description
Provide a full description of the instrument. This includes the intended use of the scale and the target population. Also include the number of items within the instrument and note if there are any sub scales within the entire scale. Include any other relevant information, not including psychometric properties.
Psychometric Properties

Collecting Qualitative Data
Scenario:
Jason is interested in visualization in high school math and science classrooms. Jason has reviewed the literature on visualization and the literature on technology use in classrooms. Much of what he has found has been quantitative, including survey data on technology use in classrooms. Jason has found no study that describes how teachers use technology to visualize math and science concepts in high schools. Because no qualitative studies exist, and because he is interested in an in-depth understanding of how teachers use technology to visualize math and science classrooms, Jason decides to conduct a qualitative study.
Questions:
• Write a purpose statement and central question for Jason’s study.
• Who should participate in Jason’s study?
• Because there is no list of teachers using technology, how might Jason find teachers to participate in his study?
• Review the types of purposeful sampling found in the chapter titles, Collecting Qualitative Data. What kind of purposeful sampling strategy should Jason use? Why?
• What approvals will Jason need to conduct his study?
• Name at least two pieces of information that Jason should collect.
