cross-cultural competence

Design an intervention in order to demonstrate cross-cultural competence. Please read the following case study and answer the questions that follow.
Alana is a six-year-old girl in Mr. Weston’s first-grade class. Mr. Weston has some concerns about Alana’s social interactions. She is sometimes withdrawn and at other times she is aggressive, lashing out for no apparent reason. Mr. Weston has tried to talk with Alana, but she just cries when he asks her what is happening at home. When Mr. Weston attempted to arrange times for a parent-teacher conference, he asked Alana if she had passed the notes along to her parents.
Alana told her teacher that her father could not miss work to come in for a conference or he would be fired. Mr. Weston called Alana’s home and spoke with the girl’s mother. She confirmed that her husband was not able to attend a meeting during the day and stated that she has three young children at home and could not afford to pay someone to watch them while she attends a conference. Alana’s mom confided that they were being evicted and would be moving to the homeless shelter, so she was not sure if Alana would be in school for a few weeks. Alana later told Mr. Weston that her parents did not respond to the teacher’s notes because they were embarrassed about the eviction and that her mother could not read.
1. What considerations along with the family’s socioeconomic status, should Mr. Weston be thinking about in order to help Alana, and why are they important?
2. In what ways might Alana’s family’s socioeconomic status and other influences from her home environment affect her cognitive development?
3. In what ways might these influences affect her social development?
4. Design 3 strategies that Mr. Weston could use to work with Alana’s parents and explain why you think these will work. What could be the downside of these strategies?
Remember to review the reading in past units for this project as well as the readings in Unit 4. Additionally, you should use 2 other research articles from peer-reviewed journals. This project should be between 800 and 1,200 words, not including the title page and the reference page. The project should be written in essay form. You are required to give credit to the sources you use, and use proper APA formatting.
