Instructions: Write a 4-page, double-spaced (Times New Roman font, 12-point) paper where you a) summarize James Rachels’ arguments against the cultural differences argument (pp. 197 – 202) in his article “The Challenge of Cultural Relativism” (in the Sher text) and b) critically evaluate his arguments against the cultural difference argument. That is, are Rachel’s arguments against the cultural differences argument decisive?

Due date: Tuesday, August 6, 2013.

Rough drafts: You are not required to submit a rough draft, but if you find it helpful to do so, you can bring me a copy in person to office hours and I will be happy to provide on the spot comments. I will not review drafts sent on email.

Article accessibility: For those of you who do not have a copy of the textbook, I will provide a copy of the article on reserve at the Leddy Library.

Criteria used for grading: Your paper will be graded on a) how well and accurately/concisely you identify & summarize Rachels’ arguments against the cultural differences argument and b) how well you critically evaluate his arguments in terms of originality and depth of insight.
