The Assignment:
1. Choose a topic. A list is provided for you on page 225 in your textbook, or you may come up with your own idea.
2. Begin by clarifying your own definition and ideas on your topic. What point are you trying to make to your reader?
3. Remember that definition itself is not a mode of writing; rather, you will be using compare/contrast, narration, exemplification, classification, etc. for supporting your thesis.
4. Support your ideas with research/sources. **The goal of this assignment is to have you practice utilizing sources for support. In this assignment, all types of sources may be utilized (websites, YouTube videos, newspaper/magazine articles, etc.). You still need to give thought to credibility. These sources can be used in a multitude of different ways: to agree with your own points, to provide a contrast to your own points, to provide background for your topic, etc.
5. Use MLA format to correctly cite your sources. You must provide in-text citations for any summarizing, paraphrasing, or quoting that you do, and you must include a properly-formatted Works Cited page at the end of your paper.
