A FEW COMMENTS ABOUT COLOR (to supplement the text):
Basic primary colors are blue, yellow and red. They are bold and assertive. Blue can symbolize earth force colors (sky, sea), health and medical matters (think Code Blue), cool intellect and technology. Red has obvious symbolism of passion, violence, love, danger, boldness, but in a business context, it can mean bankruptcy or financial loss. Yellow is a warm, friendly color.
Secondary colors also have special meanings. Green can represent wellness, growth and new life, and alternative energy, but also money and financial institutions. Orange often represents autumn, Halloween, harvest time, or to alert someone. Brown is often warm, earthy, solid and basic, inviting (shades of brown are often used for restaurants, cafes, bakeries). Purple is a rich, aristocratic, regal, smart, hip color. Black classically symbolizes evil and death, but in a business context it can mean professional, classy, cosmopolitan (think black and chrome mirrored bars and restaurants)–grey also.
Other colors: pink–juvenile; white–clean looking, sanitary, but too much white on a page can be empty and cold.
Beware of monochromatic colors used together, like grey and black, different shades of the same color, or too-similar colors like blue and violet. These colors might look good on computer screens and transparencies but look washed out and hard to differentiate in print.
