INSTRUCTIONAL THEORIES


• Provide an example of each of the four (4) factors that influence the effects of instructional theories.
• Discuss the pros and cons of using each of the factors in one (1) context in which you work or are familiar as provided below.

o K–12 audience context
o Post-secondary audience context
o Corporate audience context
Discussion 2: “Which Theory to Use?” Please respond to the following:
• Consider the types of learning outcomes listed below. Select any two (2) outcomes, and determine which learning theory seems most relevant or useful as a framework for design solutions for each. Describe how the theory would be used and explain your answer. Possible choices are: behavioral, social, cognitive/socio-cognitive, and constructivist.
• Outcome 1— Increase the number of students of low socioeconomic status who participate in extracurricular school activities.
• Outcome 2— Decrease the number of complaints received regarding delayed transcript requests from the records office.
• Outcome 3 — Increase the ability of airline baggage representatives to handle lost or damage baggage claims in a faster and more efficient manner.
• Outcome 4— Increase the skills of the locksmith to handle more key requests and lock requests in a normal workday.
• Outcome 5— Increase parent participation in the “read to the class” program in an urban school district.
