Persuasive American Speeches Discussion

During week six, you will develop a 250 word proposal for your Rogerian essay due during week seven. This proposal is due by Wednesday. Your two 150 word responses are due by Sunday.
In the first section of your proposal, you need to state your topic, and briefly explain what the issue is with the topic. Also, state your stance on this issue.
After that, I would like for you to briefly explain your background knowledge about this issue. Explain why this issue is important to you. Does this issue affect you somehow? If not, who does this issue affect? Is this an area of interest for you in your studies?
In the second section of the proposal, discuss your research plan. This is an important component of the essay – you do not want to write the essay until you have adequately researched this issue. What do you need to find to adequately prove your stance on this issue? What kinds of sources have you found about this topic? What areas of the APUS library are you using to find your sources (ProQuest, Ebsco, or another database)? What search terms are you using? You can also post a sample article, if you like.
You also are responsible for replying to two of your classmates’ initial posts. These responses should be 150 words each and are due on Sunday. In your response to your classmate, upload a possible source for your classmate (format this source MLA style, please). Also, share any information you deem helpful to that classmate (possible experience with the issue, background knowledge, concerns you have about the claim, and so on).
You will receive feedback from me as well. I will comment on the appropriateness of your topic and offer suggestions for specifying/adjusting your claim, if needed. I will also help you with your research plan, if needed.
Choose one of the “Persuasive American Speeches” listed in the “Supplemental Readings” section of the course lessons. Discuss purpose and the claim of the speech. Explain how the speech supports this claim (logos, ethos, and/or pathos). Is the opposing side mentioned? Also, describe the method of argumentation you believe is used in the speech (Toulmin? Rogerian? A mixture of both?). Give citations to back up your points, and create a final works cited citation for this essay.
In your response to your classmates, find a student who wrote about a different persuasive American speech, and comment on your classmate’s discussion of his/her chosen work. Do you agree with his or her analysis of this speech? Why? The ‘why’ is key – please post a rich response to your classmate.
Your original discussion should be at least 200 words and is due by Wednesday. It must include MLA citations – both in-text and an end citation
Please also respond to at least two of your classmates’ initial posts (students who have discussed different speeches). These responses should be at least 150 words and are due by Sunday, midnight.
