Relating Leadership to Organisational Transformation


Concepts (visual presentation and 1000 words)
In Module 3 you explored the major concepts underpinning OT and considered the types
of leadership implied in the successful enactment of each of these processes, thinking of
leadership in a diverse sense: formal and informal; shared, teacher, administrator, parallel,
dispersed, distributed, collaborative, organisation-wide, enabling, meta-strategic, and so on. (This
list is indicative and not meant to be exhaustive.)
Part 1: Visual Presentation -Types of Leadership in Organisational Transformation Concepts
Identify the types of leadership embedded in each of the major OT concepts explored in
Module 3. Capture and present this information by using a mind map.
Part 2: Significance of Leadership in Organisational Transformation
In approximately 1000 words, discuss the significance of these types of leadership in transforming organisations and critically explore how the leadership forms identified may challenge existing leadership paradigms. Make appropriate reference to the readings to support this analysis.
It may be useful to remember:
? that leadership as a dynamic process. Each concept is likely to imply a range of leadership
types – both at different stages of the process and because of its complexity.
? that leadership is unlikely to reside with one person – it may help to think of leadership as a
process. Who may be exercising the types of leadership you identify?
