Comparation of 2 Different Bible Translation

Description:
Essay Assignment

Select one episode or a series of passages from The Harper Collins Study Bible (NRSV) that ONLY from Hebrew Bible (Old Testatement: e.g Genesis, Leviticus, Song of Songs) and compare its English translation to what is found in another Bible with a significantly different translation.

In deciding which episode or passages to use for the assignment, focus on those that are most likely to appeal to non-religious readers of the Bible (narratives, descriptions, etc.). Do not choose passages which are exclusively theological in nature.

If you don't have an additional translation of your own, The Bible Gateway web site (www.biblegateway.com)has a searchable database with approximately 20 additional English translations.

Children's Bibles are acceptable also for this assignment.

Do the Bible's editors (translators) identify themselves and their perspective? If so, might their editorial bias affect the translation? Show how the words and phrases that the editors use could affect interpretation.

Change in the nature of work for Americans in the 19th century

- In the first half of the 19th century, the emergence of a market economy reshaped the lives of working Americans, both free and enslaved. Industrial and agricultural developments not only changed the status of workers and the organization of work, but also transformed the work process itself, an observation for which Adam Smith and Alexis de Tocqueville offer competing theories.

Anthropology teenager

The research question is: What is teenager? How important does the concept of teenager mean in a society and how does it vary cross-culturally? The topic is divided into three main points: Rite of passage, the roles of teenagers in social groups, and teenagers as individuals. Rite of passage means the age that one becomes a teenager and is usually celebrated with some kinds of ritual events. The roles of teenagers in social groups refer to teenagers’ expectations from family, school, and other social groups. A teenager as individuals focuses on the change in one’s behavior as he or she gets older and the consequences of teenagers’ behaviors.
