Unit 3: Groundwater, caves, and mid-continent – Lab Assignment

The lab assignment is available as Word (docx) file. Please save your file as “lab3_<your last name>” and submit it to the Dropbox by 11:00 pm on Monday, July 15, 2013. Please do not change the formatting of the original word file. You may want to put your answers in a different color text so that they stand out from the lab text. CLICK HERE TO ORDER THIS ESSAY!!!!
Additionally, you’ll be using Google Maps© to look at the land features in a number of the areas in this unit.
The two topographic maps of Mammoth Cave are essentially the same; I just compressed the file to make for easier downloads. You should be able to use the low resolution file for everything in this lab without a problem, however, if you zoom in closely, the fine details are a bit blurrier than on the high resolution map.
The topographic maps were scanned in from one master paper copy of the map. In order to cover the entire area, I created two scans which have been combined into one file. Because of this, there is some overlap between the pages. The easiest way I found to use this map was to change the view to one-up, continuous (in Adobe Reader, you do this by clicking on “View>Page Display>One-Up Continuous”). This will let you easily see the map as basically one image.
