strategic management and innovation

The discussion this week centers on how social responsibility, politics, ethics, and organizational culture impact strategic analysis and choices. There are two discussion questions that will be addressed. In your initial Discussion Board posting, please construct a table with two columns and label each as follows:
How would for-profit and nonprofit organizations differ in their applications of the strategy formulation framework? Be sure to consider the mission of the organization type and the discussion focus above.
Explain why cultural factors should be an important consideration in analyzing and choosing among alternative strategies. Give either hypothetical or real-world examples with citations to support your theory.

The Needless Things We Do

Question: If you walk into a UPS store and ship a box, you will not fill out a paper form. The associate will type the name and address into the UPS register. If you walk into a FedEx store to ship a similar box, you will complete a form. Operationally, do you see the difference and do you see the costs? What does FedEx do with that form? I am not asking that you answer that specific question, but how many layers of cost does YOUR organization impose? Or, do you see other companies that impose costs on you as their customer? Discuss your observations. I want you to be able to open your mind and your eyes and see these things.

Knowledge Management (and Transfer)

Organizations always experience an ebb and flow of talent; one of the challenges is that as talent leaves the organization, does corporate knowledge also depart along with them. Most organizations do not measure knowledge loss simply because they do not manage the knowledge base they have. A hint that there is a problem in your organization occurs when you discover that you or your team have been working on a project that another individual or team is also working. Worse, you discover that the problem your team was working on was solved some time ago by another group in your own organization.
I included both a Word document on Black Board and a link for the article. Read the article and comment…also it is fine if you use other articles on the same topic.
