For this assignment, students will write a summary of the assigned Cialdini chapter that includes the following information:
Explanation of the social influence technique discussed in the chapter,
Explanation of the social psychological processes that are involved (lead to) the effectiveness of the social influence technique,
Explanation of why the social influence technique is effective at shaping our behavior (i.e., why it works),
Statement of those who may want to use the technique to profit from our behavior,
Explanation of how we (as consumers and individuals in social interactions) can overcome the social influence technique,
Description of an example of the technique in action from the Cialdini text, and
Description of an example of the technique in action from your own personal life.
All assignments should be written using complete sentences in proper paragraph form. (Bulleted lists or individual statements are not appropriate.) The paragraphs should be written to include topic statments and transitional sentences to create proper essay form. (Each essay should be at least 500 words, approximately 2 double spaced pages of text.)
