Font size: 13 px; line hight: 16px; text-align: left; background-color: rgb ()250,250,250)
Essay portion:
Part 1. Describe your relationship to gesture. Spend some time throughout a day to bring awareness to your own
gestures when you speak, think about the gestures you make when you are happy or sad, angry or frustrated. Ask
those closest to you the gestures they associate with you and your personality. This not on consists of had
gestures, but of posture, body language, the way you sit or stand, facial expressions, and anything else you
communicate through the body non-verbally.
Part 2. Focus on a particular gesture (this will also be subject of your presentation). Explain which gesture you
will focus on, and why. When you present it, you will need to bring the gesture an emotional affect. You can
choose whatever tone you like. The gesture must be related to something you embody in your actual life, bit in
terms of how you embody it emotionally, you can demonstrate it the way you use it in real life, or you can change
it drastically. For example, you can choose a gesture you make when you are angry. You can perform that with a
different emotion, such as sadness or happiness, or you can perform it in just the way that you typically express
it. In the written part, I’d like you to discuss your history with this movement, why you’ve chosen to embody it
in this way. You also need to describe the gesture in specific detail. Do you like this particular gesture? Does
it make you self-conscious? Are you aware of it, or is it something that was called to your attention? 5 pages
total.
Presentation portion: on video, I’d like you to express this gesture. describe it briefly before you demonstrate
it, explaining how you usually use this gesture and what it signifies for you. Then I would like you to
demonstrate the gesture. Make this available to me however you would like, youtube, etc, or a video file, I just
need to get access to it.

De Waal readings and in Trost

Paper instructions:
Short Writing Assignment 2: Reflection paper, 4 pages. In the De Waal readings and in Trost’s book, we have become more familiar with famine and famine relief. Many people believe in the phrase “Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man how to fish, and he will eat for life.” However, in times of crisis, this may not be possible. With a close reading of the two texts, what are your beliefs on hunger relief programs? Who or what institutions should be overseeing this? In what ways can they work? In what ways can they be subverted? Using a close reading from the texts,
provide examples to support your thoughts.

Psychology

Paper instructions:
Quite a few people find that Jung has a great deal to say to them. They
include writers, artists, musicians, film makers, theologians, clergy of
all denominations, students of mythology, and, of course, some
psychologists. Examples that come to mind are the mythologist Joseph
Campbell, the film maker George Lucas, and the science fiction author
Ursula K. Le Guin. Anyone interested in creativity, spirituality,
psychic phenomena, the universal, and so on will find in Jung a kindred
spirit.
But scientists, including most psychologists, have a lot of trouble with
Jung. Not only does he fully support the teleological view (as do most
personality theorists), but he goes a step further and talks about the
mystical interconnectedness of synchronicity. Not only does he postulate
an unconscious, where things are not easily available to the empirical
eye, but he postulates a collective unconscious that never has been and
never will be conscious.
In fact, Jung takes an approach that is essentially the reverse of the
mainstream’s reductionism: Jung begins with the highest levels — even
spiritualism — and derives the lower levels of psychology and
physiology from them.
Even psychologists who applaud his teleology and antireductionist
position may not be comfortable with him. Like Freud, Jung tries to
bring everything into his system. He has little room for chance,
accident, or circumstances. Personality — and life in general — seems
“over-explained” in Jung’s theory.
These criticisms do not cut the foundation out from under Jung’s theory.
But they do suggest that some careful consideration is in order.
The archetypes, at first glance, might seem to be Jung’s strangest idea.
And yet they have proven to be very useful in the analysis of myths,
fairy tales, literature in general, artistic symbolism, and religious
exposition. They apparently capture some of the basic “units” of our
self-expression. Many people have suggested that there are only so many
stories and characters in the world, and we just keep on rearranging the
details.
This suggests that the archetypes may refer to some deep structures of
the human mind. What are your thoughts? Do you think that archetypes
are “real” component of our minds or just a product of Jung’s own
interests?

Employment-At-Will Doctrine

Order Instructions:
Imagine you are a recently-hired Chief Operating Officer (COO) in a midsize company preparing for an Initial Public Offering (IPO). You quickly discover multiple personnel problems that require your immediate attention.
•John posted a rant on his Facebook page in which he criticized the company’s most important customer.
•Jim sent an email to other salespeople protesting a change in commission schedules and bonuses and suggesting everyone boycott the next sales meeting.
•Ellen started a blog to protest the CEO’s bonus, noting that no one below director has gotten a raise in two (2) years and portraying her bosses as “know-nothings†and “out-of-touchâ€
•Bill has been using his company-issued BlackBerry to run his own business on the side.
•The secretaries in the accounting department decided to dress in black-and-white stripes to protest a memo announcing that the company has installed keylogger software on all company computers.
•After being disciplined for criticizing a customer in an email (sent from his personal email account on a company computer), Joe threatens to sue the company for invasion of privacy.
•One of the department supervisors requests your approval to fire his secretary for insubordination. Since the secretary has always received glowing reviews, you call her into your office and determine that she has refused to prepare false expense reports for her boss.
•Anna’s boss refused to sign her leave request for jury duty and now wants to fire her for being absent without permission.
As an astute manager, you will need to analyze the employment-at-will doctrine and determine what, if any, exceptions and liabilities exist before taking any action. As you proceed with your investigation, you discover the company has no whistleblower policy.
Write a four to five (4-5) page paper in which you:
•Summarize the employment-at-will doctrine and evaluate each of the eight (8) scenarios described by determining:
?Whether you can legally fire the employee; include an assessment of any pertinent exceptions to the employment-at-will doctrine.
?What action you should take to limit liability and impact on operations; specify which ethical theory best supports your decision.
•Take a position on whether or not you would recommend to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) that the company adopt a whistleblower policy. Support the position.
•Justify at least three (3) fundamental items that should be included in a whistleblower policy. Provide a rationale for your selection of each of the three (3) recommended items.
•Use at least three (3) quality resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia is not an acceptable reference and proprietary Websites do not qualify as academic resources.
