Stand-Up Paper

1) Write about humor and comedy as concepts within our culture. What is
their place? How has their perception changed over the years? What
kinds of messages or comments are they making? What role do they
fill in your life? Why am I referring to them as if they are people? And
further, how does stand-up comedy fit into the overall comedy equation
in terms of its impact on our culture, and how has our culture influenced
stand-up? You know… shit like that!
2) Choose any comedian – either one we watched or one we haven’t -
and compare and contrast their material/message with that of a more
“legitimate†public figure (politician, pundit, commentator, activist,
philosopher, author, civil rights figure, TV host, world leader, etc). How
do they line-up? Where do they diverge? Where do you stand, and why
is one generally perceived as more credible?
3) Language has certainly proliferated, if not deteriorated since Carlin’s
“Seven Dirty Words.†Put yourself in Carlin’s shoes and examine
the current state of language: its contradictions, its inconsistencies,
its peculiarities. Break down particular words, phrases, patterns, or
tendencies to determine what they mean and why they matter to our
culture and society.
I place far more value on original, critical thought than picture perfect
grammar and usage. The best paper is the one that brings something
new and interesting to the table, and youtube has enough clips for you
to support even the craziest ideas. Writing is supposed to be a liberating
process, not one that makes you want to punch.

Information E-Mail or Memo: Organizing Presentations

As assistant director, you have been working on a program of speakers for the spring luncheon meetings of the National Workrights Council, a group that advocates for workers. You have received confirmation that William J. Prewarski will speak on January 11. His topic is “Wellness Programs and Employee Rights.” Bridget F. Benoit will discuss “Rising Healthcare Costs” on March 13. You are fairly certain that Joel Shaw-Jones will speak to the group on May 15. His topic is “Outrageous CEO Compensation.” For the June 9 meeting, you propose three possibilities: “The Real Cost of Offshoring,” “Perform or Perish,” or “Workplace Privacy.”
Your Task. Prepare a message addressed to Colson M. Kettler, Executive Director, National Workrights Council. Outline the proposed speaking schedule and ask him to choose a topic for June 9. Include an action closing and deadline for his response. Provide a reason for the deadline.
Develop a response that includes examples and evidence to support your ideas, and which clearly communicates the required message to your audience. Organize your response in a clear and logical manner as appropriate for the genre of writing. Use well-structured sentences, audience-appropriate language, and correct conventions of standard American English.

Sinclair library resources

Find three sources from a scholarly journal that apply to student study-abroad trips. This information may be specific to a country or more general in nature. The information may discuss why types of students are more likely to study abroad, the benefits of traveling abroad, employers’ view of students who study abroad, etc. Be sure to include the citation for all three sources, formatted in MLA. I may try to find your original article and MLA format is needed for me to do this successfully.
You may use the Sinclair library resources to find articles or Google Scholar can sometimes be helpful.
1) List three resources in MLA format
2) Summarize the information you learned from reading the articles. The summary should be about 500 words long, encompassing the information you learned from all the articles.
Post your summary and the sources in a Word document to the Secondary Resources Discussion Posting. Make sure to save your work. You will use this again when you complete the final paper.

1984 Today

2-3 parallels between the book 1984 by George Orwell and real life, examples that you could use is the lack of privacy which you could compare with the current issue with the NSA and also how the news in real life starts and the 2-min hate in the book are both used to manipulate emotion. these are 2 examples of parallels with the book and real life you must include direct quotes from the book and also i would like it if you added a third example which you found in the book itself. It is a personal essay where i have to portray my personal perceptions, reactions and thoughts so by adding these examples comment on them.
