New Media

Write an essay analyzing a specific issue related to the news media. An analysis can take many forms, such as a comparison, or a study of the inner workings of something. Thus:You could compare a couple different types of news media — how does print media differ from broadcast media, for example?Or how does one particular newspaper or news station differ from another one? You could focus on one type of media, or even on one franchise (like the Fresno Bee) and look into how the news is produced and what decisions have to be made, business or otherwise. You can focus on controversial issues, such as whether reporters should be allowed to shield their sources or what standards of conduct are appropriate when it comes to reporting sensitive information (such as deaths). You can look at trends in the news media-why are newspapers experiencing declining revenues and what are they doing about it, how is the growth of Internet news sites and blogs affecting the traditional media, or is the consolidation of media into a few large companies a good or bad trend?Whatever approach you use, your analysis should lead you to suggest improvements or solutions to problems or to take a stand for or against a trend, etc.
