Architecture

Discuss the shift from the Renaissance to Baroque, acknowledging origins, reasons, national inflections and manifestations.
Project description
IMAGE ARE NEEDED TO SUPPORT EVERY STATEMENT, 12 IMAGES MINIMUM.
You must also abide by the following points, no matter which topic you have been assigned to:
? The essay must be analytical rather than merely descriptive
? You should include appropriate images and analytical diagramming methods to support your argument, including those used in lectures
? You must refer to buildings that you have researched yourself, as well as buildings and epochs discussed during the lecture series
? You must offer your own opinions and conclusions based on sound research
? The essay must be thoroughly and accurately referenced
• You must only use internet sources if they are either considered as reliably academic, ie. online journals or academic research papers. Architectural practice websites may also be suitable for checking certain practical information. These must always be referenced, however. Don’t forget to use the Avery Index for journal articles.
The essay will be assessed in relation to building description and analysis, historical context, and use of illustrative material, and specifically on the following criteria: content (30%), argument (30%), evidence of research (10%), referencing (10%), lucidity of writing (10%), and presentation (10%).
- More than one point of view, including your own….you will need to reference multiple publications
- Shift- the Change – why was there a change? How were they different anyway?
- The before and after; how did these modes of architecture (etc.) come about? How did they develop in other cultures outside Italy?
TIP: Discuss analytically the differences between Renaissance and Baroque…..and again, contextualisation helps to ground your argument. What is your argument, eg. was Baroque, for example, a satisfactory fulfilment of the Renaissance?
