Armstrongs Handbook of Human Resource Management Practice

Click here to get more on this essay..... Specifications for the formative stage (group report):
1. Using appropriate theoretical models and frameworks the task is to write a report of around 1500 words (excluding contents, references and appendices) about an HR-related topic.
2. Groups are to consider a company, industry, event (a merger, for example), a process (training, considering redundancies, for example) or a culture (e.g. French national culture, or Apple company culture), of their choice, which demonstrates some aspect of managing Human Resources.
3. The topic must be approved by the module tutor, who has the final say over which companies to use.
4. The report may describe good practice, or poor practice, or a problem of some kind.
5. The report is likely to include the background, any key events, the issue itself and the reasons for it, and how the people involved are managing it.
6. We are much more interested in the HR issues than the history of the company, so please focus your work on HR. Any necessary additional information can be included in an appendix.
7. You are expected to show familiarity with one theoretical model/framework per team-member.
8. We strongly suggest you appoint a proof-reader in your group who has the responsibility for checking spelling, coherence, style and referencing etc. We are expecting full and appropriate citations within the text and a full list of references at the end (Harvard style).
9. Students can choose from any HR topic covered anywhere on the module. The title needs to be agreed with the lecturer (by week 4 is recommended).
