In 1955 medical researcher Jonas Salk developed an effective polio vaccine. At the time polio was considered a serious threat to public health however, Salk refused to profit by patenting the vaccine because he was more concerned with preventing disease than with personal gain. While several people work to benefit themselves primarily motivated by financial gain or profit, some individuals adopt a more self-less approach by deliberately putting the needs of others first. Carefully reflect upon this statement.
