You are the “Labor News” editor of the Bronx Community Times on the eve
of the Civil War writing an editorial on whether the country should
resort to war in order to prevent the southern states from leaving the
Union. The continued existence of slavery, in the south or in the new
territories, is of course an important issue in determining your point
of view. Make use of descriptions of slavery as found in the primary
sources as well as views on the end of slavery assigned in the Reader.
You may take a pro- or anti-slavery position.
