Requirements: Paper length of AT LEAST 5 pages, 4 scholarly sources, works cited page.
Present and explain thoughts, feelings and opinions about a current social issue that affects us locally as well as nationally and globally. To do so, please answer the following questions: What is your topic and what do we already know about the topic (this is where you’ll discuss your research)? How does this topic challenge our current ways of thinking? How does this issue affect the local and global worlds?
Consider this research paper as your endeavor into formulating a working opinion about an issue in order that you may take a stand and participate in some sort of outreach/activism (or, an educated dialogue). Also, consider how your research dealt with the issue. Is the author’s evidence credible? Should the field be studied differently? Where is the researching field headed?
Finally, in your conclusion, please suggest to us what we should KNOW about the issue. Why is this an important cause/issue (it should be important to you, since you chose it) and what should we do about it. Do not spend too much time with this, as the final essay assignment will ask you to spend much more time addressing this question.
Finally, be sure to attribute all your sources. You must use 4 SEPERATE sources in your paper; 2 of these sources MUST BE from books/periodicals/journals (I will consider online publications/ebooks in this category)! Be sure these are scholarly sources! If you quote from a text or paraphrase, be sure you put quotation marks around the quotation and use in-text citations. Plagiarism is a very serious offense and wholly unnecessary. This is your chance to educate yourself on a topic you care strongly about. You can change the world here! Don’t fear your voice and thoughts and don’t squander this opportunity to learn and participate in our world!
Now, get to it. Research, outline, draft, conference! Don’t be afraid to talk about your research with buddies, if they’re your real friends, you won’t scare them away.
