Special Gifts and Talent


identify characteristics of gifted and talented students; discuss federal and state definitions, origins and identification of the gifted, and physical, psychological, and behavioral characteristics. We will examine diversity within the category of gifted, underachieving, the learning disabled, the ethnic minority, and females as a separate category. We will discuss issues such as acceleration and enrichment, the types of teachers who should teach the gifted, and how to modify and adapt curriculum to meets the needs of gifted students in the regular classroom.

What are the educational implications of teaching children with special gifts and talents?
