"A central characteristic of modern terrorism is its symbolic, communicative and even theatrical nature. With this in mind, compare and contrast two modern terrorist movements from the mid-nineteenth century to the present and examine the similarities and differences in how they imagined how violence could and even should promote their political aims. Pay particular attention to terrorism as “tactic” rather than “ideology” and how this informed the strategic choices of those who embraced violence as an acceptable form of political expression."
