Fin Statement Analysis vs Betting on the Market
Warren Buffett once said, ‘our favorite holding period is forever.’ With that in mind, financial statement analysis, as outlined in the lesson and in FFM, seems a reasonable approach to investing. However, the activity described in the interview with Michael Lewis is the opposite of this – it is in fact termed ‘betting against the market’. Are the financial statement analysis techniques covered in the lesson relevant here? If not, what techniques might be effective instead? How does this type of activity (that is, betting against the market) affect the capital markets and the economy as a whole?
