This will be the literature review chapter for my phd thesis in
strategic management. The unit of analysis will be an international
equity joint venture case study. The lit review should cover the
relational theory as outlined by Dyer &Singh 1998 but should be
critical applying the research of Beamish&Lupton 2009. The four
categories defined by Dyer&Singh1998 :Relation Specific Assets,
Knowledge Sharing Routines, Complementary Resources and Capabilities,
and Effective Governance should be researched and discussed in depth
according to the most recent and classic articles in those 4 categories
(determinants). Also the 5 of 6 categories of Beamish&Lupton 2009
(Performance, Knowledge Management, Governance, Managing Cultural
Differences, and Valuing the JV )should be compared and discussed in an
overlapping way with Dyer&Singh1998 and any others found. Click here to get more on this essay..... The 6
category of Internationalization should not be discussed as my case will
not include the Selecting A Partner stage of Beamishi&Lupton 2009's
schema. ,Give a strong categorization of the
determinants of success for international equity joint ventures in order
to use as the guidance for the data collection during the case study
which will be done lat this year. There is some debate about putting
Relational View together with Resource Based View and my readings
indicate it should be so go with that. Also Dyer&Sing1998 are
relying on data from Supply chain management so a bridge should be made
to equity joint ventures hence the Beamish&Lupton 2009 article.
Also interesting is Dovev Lavie, Kathleen Eisenhardt and Frederic
Prevot. Prevot is French and it is not necessary to use his French work
but some citation of him is necessary and Dovev and Eisenhardt are
critical.
