Ethical Theories
Read some segments of Chapter 1 in Munson and to do some analysis of the Dax Cowart case. For Assignment 6, read sections 1, 2, 3, and 4 of Chapter 1. Now – citing references in the text as well as your own ethical position, answer the following question: Do you agree with Eugene Rosam’s reply to Anita Catlin’s position? Rosam’s reply can be found on page 101 – 103. Give reasons why you side with either Rosam or Catlin making sure you use material you have encountered in the readings.

instructions: For each assignment, choose one prompt and answer it in a short essay of 1-2 double-spaced pages. Each essay should fully consider the question(s) and should pull from the course readings, as well as your own experiences and opinions, if applicable. Show me that you’ve really thought about your topic and that you have a full understanding of this issue. Your essay should have both a strong introduction (with a thesis statement that clearly states your argument) and a strong conclusion.
Teachers Expectations:
Uses outside sources and cites them. [Later addition: In this case by "outside sources" I mean not just the student's own ideas or memory. I do not necessarily mean any texts, websites, or anything else beyond the Vivian textbook except as noted in my replies to Meagan's posts below. Here's an improved version of this first commonality that I have observed in papers receiving a 4.0:
Contains information or arguments from one or more reputable sources (e.g. the Vivian textbook, etc.) and cites them.]
Arguments backed up by facts (which are cited).
Grammar is good.
Excellent organization of argument.
Argument flows well from one point to the next.
Every aspect of the questions and prompts is answered. (I recommend making outlines of assignments in order to help you to do this and stay on track.)
No or almost no irrelevant topics are brought up.
Paper is much closer to the higher end of the range of acceptable length (i.e. 500 words) than to the lower end of the range (i.e. 250 words) without being prolix.
Any terms used in the description of the assignment are defined well.
Except when answering questions about one’s self (such as in response to a prompt to describe one’s own level of media literacy or one’s own history), the paper is not a discussion of one’s own personal experiences and not written in the first person. (So, words such as “you,” “I,” “your,” “my,” and so on are not present in the paper except in the unique situation mentioned in the previous sentence.)

Chinese family
Imagine that you are the head of a Chinese family. What advice do you give to your son about how to find the “Way”?
You may want to use Confucian, Daoist, or Legalist ideas. You may get these examples from the Daodejing, the Craig textbook or the Reader: be sure to cite them specifically by page.
Imitate the style of Chinese authors we have read (for instance, Mencius or Han Fei-tzu). Use at least one example from history or myth to support the advice you are giving.

Is exercisey ou will be playing the role of a Business Analyst who has been
selected to work
for Snowden Evans and his Systems and Training Group. Initially
Snowden had asked
you to undertake a review of progress on a system
they call
GEMS that is under development at present. Snowden has asked you to consider and
report on the “business†rather than the “technical†aspects of
its progress. That is he wants you to report on whether or not the systems
as it has been designed
will meet
the business needs of Maple Ridge you can assume that the technical design will
implement the business requirements (as currently defined) adequately.
Your Assignment will require you to understand
and document the
requirements and
processes within Maple Ridge, identify and describe various problems and
opportunities within the company and finally propose ways to progress these.
In this
first stage your focus will be primarily on Operational requir
ements. In the second
stage of the Case Study the focus changes to Strategic considerations.
Maple Ridge
Maple Ridge is the subject of the “Hypercase†from Kendall & Kendall. There is a
good deal of information about Maple Ridge on

And of course what do you (as a good analyst/problem Solver/communicator) do
when, even after investigating all of these sources you still have questions/concerns?
You seek further clarification and a

I will be playing the user roles for this exercise so if you have any questions ask me
what you would like to know.
You may ask any questions about Maple Ridge or if
you have any technical questions about fact finding, drawing

Note that I am encouraging you to discuss all of
the things you find with your fellow students, those who share their t

findings with others will receive recognition for this in their marks for this
component.
Deliverables
This Phase
Soft copies of your documentation and recommendations relating to the GEMS
system.

We will talk about the case study each week in class.
General Comments
When you are trying to work out what is happening a
t Maple Ridge, what problems
exist and how you could address them you WILL find the process confusing,
contradictory and frustrating….. almost always you will be told lots that you do not
need to know, and little of what you do need to know, often you will
even be told
things that turn out to be inaccurate!
Welcome to the (virtual) real world. It is your job to sort out what is needed and what
is accurate! It is a frustrating job, but once you have done it a very rewarding one!
And finally remember that I
will expect to see mention of your progress on MRE in
your Journal.

Case Study (New Generation Internet Service)
You are the Senior Manager of a major wireless telecommunications provider. Your main
competitor in this industry has recently announced that they will be releasing a new generation
internet service that will significantly increase internet access speeds for wireless devices (e.g.
smartphones, tablets)
In the last Board Meeting, you were chosen to determine whether your company should also
consider deploying a similar service. The new generation service is based on an entirely new
technology and as such will require customers to buy new wireless devices
The Board has a few concerns:
? High cost associated with replacement of IT equipment and systems
? Will this new technology be readily adopted by customers
? Is this the technology of the future?
? Will the competitor be stealing your customers?
Submit a report of 3000 words for the Board discussing the benefits of your suggested plan of
action and risks associated to it.
? How long to wait?
? Adopt / Ignore the new technology
? What information will you look at for the basis of your decision
? How will you determine the costs and benefits of upgrading to the new
technology
Being a senior manager, you have access to various resources which can help in your decision
making:
? corporate database
? Information on billing, customers
? Marketing team

The Future of Healthcare
The 2010 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) is a landmark legislation that is considered by many to be the most significant advance in the United States healthcare policy since the passage of Medicare and Medicaid in 1965. However, the ACA is not without controversy stemming from opponents all along the political spectrum. Some believe the law has gone too far, others not far enough.CLICK HERE TO GET MORE ON THIS PAPER.....
Aside of ACA, an alternative approach to healthcare delivery has been referred to as the “single-payer†system. Research the single-payer approach to healthcare delivery in the United States using your textbook, the Argosy University online library resources, and the Internet.
Address the following:
What are the strengths and challenges presented in this solution?
Identify any omissions in this solution and discuss how they should be addressed.
Identify any changes that you would suggest.
Based on your current situation in terms of healthcare coverage (insured by an employer, covered under a parent’s or spouse’s policy, receiving government benefits, uninsured, etc.), indicate how a single-payer plan would affect you personally. Also, indicate whether you are in favor of such an approach.

Social and Professional Issues in Information Technology
Investigate Social Issue in Information Technology
From the pyramids of Egypt to the Internet of today, social synergy has been critical to
development of human civilized society for thousands of years. It is now also required
for socio-technical systems, information technologies that enable online communities.
Read the following paper on the social environment model:
Whitworth, B. and Sylla, C., A Social Environment Model of Socio-technical Performance,
International Journal for Networking and Virtual Organizations, Vol. 11, Number 1, p1-29 2012
It suggests why online communities flourish or fail, to improve socio-technical system
design and help developers. Key concepts are: system levels, social synergy, defection,
utility value, social failure, competence, cooperation, altruism, legitimate interactions,
community performance, social hijack, social dilemma, social health, technical vs.
social environment, freedom and social “goodnessâ€
You have been asked to review technology support for synergy in three socio-technical
system applications within a genre, to help its designers. They should be relatively
recent and still developing, i.e. an online community has formed but is not yet
massive. Register your genre selection by sending an email to Brian, as each group
must investigate a different genre. Table 6 of the reference paper gives some options.
Your study will compare and contrast the applications and recommend changes. Base
your report on academic research and web data, not personal opinion. Reference all
sources. Any word-for-word sentences from other documents, whether online or not,
including the above paper, must be in quotes. Write the report in academic format, of
about ten pages not counting figures, as per the format outline below.
Summarize your report: explain the topic, a sentence say why it is important, summarize
what you found and give any conclusions or recommendations.

The main part of our report (3-6 text pages) Replace with meaningful words.
In this section, report the results of your web research on social synergy.
1. Describe your socio-technical genre, with a definition (quote a reference), a name
and links to least five well known examples. Do not be too general in your genre,
e.g. “information exchange systems” is too general. Possible examples include
social networks, social media, chats, twitters, discussion boards, wikis, online
games, social simulations, social bookmarkers, news and media sites, texting,
academic knowledge exchange sites, trading sites, job search sites, and others.
2. Analyse three different socio-technical applications in your genre. For each one:
a) Describe and link to the application, what users do, what the software does.
b) Competence. Describe the technology functions that alone (with no other user
input) increase individual user competence. Estimate the user benefit(s).
c) Synergy. Describe the technology functions that enable synergy gains between
community users. Cover both what users give and what they get in the synergy.
Estimate the community “user†benefits. Compare with b).
d) Defections. Describe defections that could destroy the synergy gains, i.e. how
can users “abuse†the system? Be explicit on how exactly the defections harm
the community. How susceptible is the system to defections and how does it
defend its community? Describe the software functions that help this.
e) Social dilemma. Describe in non-technical terms a social dilemma that might
present to a user in this online community. Discuss the factors that affect how
they resolve it, both human and technical.
f) Social health. About how many users does this community have? About how
many of these contribute to its synergy? How many harm it? How many just
“lurk†? Estimate the social health as a % and justify your percentage.
g) Legitimacy rules. Name the social rules or “laws†the community espouses or
tries to follow to increase legitimate interactions. How does IT help here?
h) Screenshots. For each of a)-h) above, illustrate with at least one screenshot,
given as a numbered and titled Figure referenced in the text.

3. Summarize your findings in a numbered and titled Table referenced in the text.
Compare the applications on at least five key social requirements, including
synergy and defections, mentioned in your introduction.
4. Conclude with a list of main conclusions.

Discuss and recommend (1-4 pages)
1. Discuss your main conclusions, i.e. what do they mean in general? Are there any
big lessons here, for other socio-technical genres or physical society?
2. Suggest how IT system designers can design for community synergy in this genre:
a) Make at least five points, preferably more.
b) Be specific to the genre.
c) Be useful not vague, e.g. “Increase synergy†doesn’t help.
d) Target your recommendations at IT software designers.
3. Recommend specific and feasible design improvements to each application based
on your suggestions, preferably with a screenshot.

Cocoanut Grove Fire.
The FAA has recently come under fire for not establishing better technologies to save the lives of passengers on flights unfortunate enough to experience mid-air collisions. These mid-air collisions are the result of distance closing faster than the airplane can be made to react. A brilliant aerospace engineer has designed a passenger jet that constantly monitors radar signatures for input. It calculates the distance between the plane and any other objects within the plane’s area of concern up to 3 miles away.CLICK HERE TO GET MORE ON THIS PAPER.....
Though the plane is agile, it has a threshold of a 10s reaction time. That is to say, the plane can be made to safely avert an object it’s headed for collision with so long as it has at least 10s to react. If the pilot has not reacted within 20s the system begins to prepare itself to react on behalf of the pilot. If the plane cannot react by averting disaster, it will eject all 400 passengers from their seats in a safe “cocoon-like” pod that drifts to the earth below using parachutes. That is to say, if for some reason the time to react, based on the plane’s speed and object’s speed is too short to avert a collision, the plane will launch and and escape sequence to save the passengers.
write a program that receives distance and speed values for the plane and the closest moving object to the plane. The program must calculate the time to impact. If the time to impact, based on the parameters above, is less that 10s then the program will signal the plane to launch the passengers to safety)).CLICK HERE TO GET MORE ON THIS PAPER.....
