Under the general direction of the Department of Justice Administrator I (DOJA I) of the Game Review Unit, the Staff Services Analyst (SSA) is responsible for approving/denying the games and gaming activities conducted in California cardrooms. The duties include interpreting and applying gambling laws and regulations in the review of applications requesting approval to conduct a new game or gaming activity. The SSA will prepare written letters on the approval or denial of a new game or gaming activity; conduct oral briefings to management regarding recommendations for approval or denial of an application; research the rules and method of play of a new game or gaming activity; serve as the contact for the gambling industry; provide training to licensing analysts, field representatives and agents regarding the games approved for play by the Bureau; and ensure the Attorney General’s website is updated with the most current information regarding the rules of the games. Must be able to effectively communicate and demonstrate good judgment when interacting with the public and professional staff; ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines; integrity and the ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information; strong proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; and good attendance. Must have the ability to work both independently and as a team member; carry out prescribed tasks with minimal supervision; be a self-starter, flexible, and have a positive attitude. Willingness to travel.
