Issue Analysis: Cognitive Dissonance



? Introduction
A persons attitude and actions changes based on situations that he or she faces in his or her lifetime while causing each individual to have a different reaction to every situation that he or she may face in life. The purpose of this paper is to summarize concisely both arguments discussed in issue five. Second, define consonant, and dissonant cognitions while using the arguments made in Issue five to analyze the influence that consonant, and dissonant cognitions have on attitudes and behavior, and last, analyze the concept of persuasion as persuasion relates to the concept discussed in Issue five.

? Briefly summarize both arguments discussed in Issue 5.
Three social psychologists named Leon Festinger, James M. Carlsmith, and Daryl J. Bem join forces to determine does cognitive dissonance explain why behavior can change attitudes. The three psychologists performed experiments reasoning his answer pertaining to the given topic, which social psychologists Leon Festinger, and James M. Carlsmith agreed that cognitive dissonance can change behavior, and attitudes through a special theory, whereas Daryl J. Bem disagreed by setting up a self-perception theory (Nier, 2010). Festinger, and Carlsmith proposed a theory of cognitive dissonance, which the two psychologists believed that people tend to get his or her false attitudes mixed up with his or her true attitudes after acting in a conflicting way. Bem proposed a self-perception theory that cognitive dissonance is not necessarily an outcome of a falsehood between a persons attitude, and actions. To prove the results of each theory proposed by the psychologists Festinger and Carlsmith conducted a $1/$20 experiment, which the two psychologists paid individuals $1 to tell a lie verbalizing that he or she enjoyed the experiment, and paid other individuals $20 to tell the same lie. Bem used the same study, but consisted of different tasks, which participants participated in different tasks while obtaining $1 stating how much he or she enjoyed the task, and new hires received $20 to do the same tasks, which attitudes in this range matched the $1 range.
