Please explore the role of musical theatre conventions. This films hides the most difficult thing for a movie musical to succeed with- a character breaking into song and dance. By placing every musical number in a character’s imagination they have skirted that issue. THE QUESTION is: Can a character breaking into song and dance work in a regular musical adaptation?
